From: "Ted Tarbell" Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 17:06:56 -0800 Subject: MDI Continuous HiRes Observing Run There is an updated SOHO schedule for the start of the continuous run now. It shows the HiRes continuous run starting at about 09:00 UT Wednesday morning. The SUMER-CDS "UV Blinkers" observations go from 13:00 to 00:00 and the EIT rapid flux evolution observations from 19:00 to 22:00. Our MDI campaign and rotation-tracking coordinates are ready to go. There is still not much activity on the sun; a small bipolar region will enter the HR field in about 2 days if it survives. The following table shows the listed JOPS during the run, along with a description in English and the coordinates of the East-West edges of the MDI extracted field which follows rotation, at the start and stop of each. Coordinates are in arcseconds from disk center. After about 31 hours, the coordinates remain fixed at -15 to 287 arcseconds; these should include the SUMER slit at disk center. By remaining fixed in this position, we can observe the same patch of sun rotate through the field for another 30-35 hours. This is essential for our study of the lifetime of supergranulation. The field always extends North-South from -186 (S) to +434 (N) arcseconds. These coordinates assume no retargeting of the MDI extracted field during the run, which is the best working assumption now. MDI will take a magnetogram, dopplergram, and continuum image on this 302 x 620 arcsecond field every minute. If all goes well, the duration will be 84.5 hours.
