Subject: Mammoth write speed Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 11:55:12 -1000 From: Don Mickey I just tried writing a 410 Mb file to the Exabyte Mammoth drive. I used dd, with bs=32k. Takes 88.3 seconds, i.e. 4.64 Mb/sec. Larger block size doesn't help much. This is better than the 0.24 Mb/s we get with the old drives. Disk 1 to disk 2, both on the external ultra-scsi bus, takes 51.7 sec, about 7.9 Mb/s. The internal bus must be slower, since data1->work took 62 s. Subject: IVM upgrade progress--wraw Date: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 15:06:18 -1000 From: Don Mickey I've recoded wraw. Wrote a test program which reads the 8MB memory board from the POI system and writes the contents to a disk file, eight times. Takes 15.44 seconds to write 67+ megabytes of data to disk. And 19.0 seconds to write the same amount to tape. So writing one image should take maybe 30 msec? Not bad. -- Last modified: Wed Mar 25 14:24:16 HST 1998
