From: Barry LaBonte Subject: IVM reduction data system ideas Placeholder July 10, 1997 We need lots of processing power. A central server with a set of dumb dedicated PC processors may work. The PC just processes whatever data is dumped into its workspace and leaves the answers behind. The server handles the overall flow. An issue is the flow of data from Mees to Manoa. If the reductions are done in Manoa, then the limiting time is shipping the raw tapes. If the reductions are done on Maui, then the limiting time is shipping the reduced tapes. In either case, we ought to step up the cadence of tape shipments once we are happy with reduction process.
